Sept 2009 Snaps: Service Enablement Services (SES)
From the current issue of Beecham Snaps:
October is shaping up to be a month when a large number of new M2M “service platforms” are due to be launched, or upgrades to existing platforms are announced. This looks to be particularly the case in or around the upcoming CTIA Wireless show in San Diego early in the month.
“Service Platform” is a rather general term that could refer to a number of different things, so some definition is necessary. Beecham Research refers to these activities as M2M Service Enablement Services (SES) and the platforms themselves as SES platforms. We define SES as the services layer above network connectivity (such as mobile airtime) but below vertical end user services (such as fleet/freight management and security alarm services).
Some typical examples of services in this layer include:
o Remote enable/disable and auto-provision o Managed update of remote devices with the latest application software o Data warehousing of device data prior to processing by end user applications o Integration with enterprise systems
This is much more than just managing the connection.
